Varsity Lakes is located in the heart of the Gold Coast and is a 343 hectare residential and commercial development, worth $1 billion over 6 to 8 years. Varsity Lakes will be home to 7000 people by 2008.
Morrison Geotechnic is providing Geo-engineering services to Delfin Lend Lease for this challenging project and has done so since its inception and planning stages in 1999. Our work has included:-
- Identification of development constraints, which included deep deposits of soft, wet, marine clay soils, existing reclaimed and filled land dating back to the development of Bond University in the 1980's.
- Preliminary resource evaluation, including sand deposits, suitability of excavated weathered rocks for use in select fill in road constructions.
- Investigation, analysis and design advice for numerous multi-story commercial, residential and educational buildings with basements adjacent to Lake Orr.
- Ground improvement for soft marine clay soil areas, which included the design of preloads along road and service alignments and for building areas.
- Geotechnical issues associated with design and construction of near lake areas, including soft soil problems, materials handling, revetment stability, and lake boardwalks.
- Investigation, analysis and design advice for civil works, including roads, bridges, sewers, drainage structures and wetlands.
- Design advice for Lake Orr reconstruction works including bridge piles, lake extension excavations and reclamation by filtering through water
- Acid sulphate soil assessments and management plans.
- Construction issues, including soft subgrades and foundations, stability of fill batters and drainage problems.
- Earthquake effects including
